Then it depends on your most desire what to do in the island. If you love night life, I would suggest Patong. Less tourist & more quiet would be Kata or Karon. Centre which easy to transfer to other parts & enjoy shopping may be in town. For very quiet beach or enjoy golfing would be Naiyang beach. There are many hotels (budget - 5-star) and guest house or even bungalow. Today's quite easy to go around Thailand between tourist destination by budget flights (AirAsia or NokAir). But most of the route would like to/from Bangkok.
